Overall job description:
The primary responsibility of the Head of Analytics, is to ensure the delivery of high quality insights to clients throughout the region. You will have microscopic attention to detail, to ensure that all analyses are robust.
You must have a deep love and understanding of sport and maths. You must be able to crystallise client needs in mathematical formulae, and then report their findings in plain English. The Head of Analytics must therefore be highly eloquent both from an internal and external communications perspective.
This area is growing very fast and it is vital that the Head of Analytics enjoys working in a dynamic environment. This is a new role to the business, following my clients outstanding success in 2011, as they expand their Senior Analytics personnel.
Key responsibilities
You will have direct responsibility for analytics output for some of my clients larger clients, and supervise the Analysts’ insights on other projects. This will include presenting research findings to clients, and understanding their commercial needs in order to devise new solutions. Some international travel will be involved in client servicing.
You will have line management responsibility for four IT and business analysts from the central team, in London.
Your two key responsibilities are Analytics and Product Development.
Analytics
You will have responsibility for devising appropriate analytical solutions:
i) Hypothesis setting and collation of relevant data sets
ii) Data verification (in terms of statistics and commercial relevance)
iii) Client discussion to agree on proposed approach
iv) Working with the Analysts to ensure statistical and commercial robustness in their findings
v) Presentation of results in interesting formats
Product development
My client has the industry’s leading analytics software in the areas of media, sponsorship and consumer research. However, sport is a highly competitive industry and it is vital that they retain and grow their lead in these areas.
You will therefore work with the Directors, in order to identify where there is scope to build new products that will make the greatest commercial difference to them and their clients. You will also work with their IT Analysts to ensure that there is synchronisation between what works technically and what delivers greatest value commercially.
The successful candidate is likely to have a corporate background, working for a leading management consultancy, financial services firm or in industry. My client has a uniquely data-driven approach to evaluating sports investments and this will be reflected in your mindset and expertise.
Fluency in commercially important European or Middle Eastern languages would also be advantageous.
